Vietnam is a multi-ethnic country, which is composed of 54 ethnic groups and today we will learn more about these groups, their traditions and languages.

Then we drive to the serene Temple of Literature, Hanoi’s first university dating back to 1070 and a historical centre of learning, now dedicated to Confucian worship.

This afternoon we will visit Ho Chi Minh Complex for a look at the life of the father of modern Vietnam. Without question, Ho Chi Minh is one of the great figures of 20th-century history First we will view Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum from outside where Ho Chi Minh first declared independence from French rule in 1945.

Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum is closed for entry every Monday and also from September to December each year. During these times we are unable to enter the Mausoleum; however we can view it from the exterior.

In the same complex we will see the Humble House on Stilts from which ‘Uncle Ho’ ruled Vietnam until his death in 1969, and the One Pillar Pagoda.

Later this afternoon, take a walking tour of the Old Quarter. This bustling heart of Hanoi has been a commercial centre since King Ly Thai To build his palace there in the 11th century. Skilled craftsmen started to migrate and artisan guilds were formed on the famous “36 Streets”. Previously, each street carried the name of the item produced and sold there, and many still have the same names. This is a place you must see to experience Hanoi, where you will find shopping and cultural/historical sites all wrapped into one. Stop visit St Joseph’s Cathedral & Hoan Kiem lake.
