Day 1

On arrival at Maun Airport you will be warmly welcomed by an &Beyond representative, who will assist you onto your light aircraft flight to the camp or lodge of your choice in the Okavango Delta.

The Okavango Delta is the world’s largest inland delta and is often referred to as a miracle of nature. A maze of sparkling lagoons, meandering channels and overgrown islands teeming with wildlife, Botswana’s Okavango Delta lies like a sparkling jewel at the heart of the Kalahari Desert. Known as the river that never finds the sea, the Delta’s crystal-clear channels spread over the thirstlands of the Kalahari with their papyrus-fringed banks and fertile floating islands. Guided dugout canoe (mokoro) trips take you into the heart of the delta and provide excellent up-close game viewing and bird watching.

Adapted for a life in and out of water, the elegant red lechwe and shy sitatunga are found in this watery wilderness. Lion, cheetah, leopard and African wild dog share the floodplains with large herds of elephant and buffalo. Hippo inhabit the deeper channels and lagoons, while honey badgers may be seen in broad daylight. Tall termite mounds are homes for families of dwarf and banded mongoose.

This remarkable region is a Wetland of International Importance (RAMSAR site) due to its unique ecosystem. In terms of pristine beauty, remote location and rich diversity of animal and bird life, the Okavango Delta is unbeatable.

Spend two nights in the Okavango Delta, choosing between a value, luxury or deluxe accommodation option. Please refer to the terms and conditions to determine what is included in each option.

Day 3

After breakfast in the Okavango Delta, you will board a light aircraft flight to the camp or lodge of your choice in the Moremi Game Reserve.

Spreading across the magnificent Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve boasts the most diverse habitat and animal populations in Botswana. The landscape comprises a stunning combination of forests, lagoons, floodplains and islands. Tall mopane woodlands and spreading floodplains fringed with majestic palms make Moremi one of Africa’s most scenic wildlife areas. The combination of habitats makes Moremi the ideal place to combine typical savanna game viewing with leisurely cruises along lagoons and channels and rich bird watching.

Dense riverine forests are home to shy leopard and deep lagoons are inhabited by hippo, while the semi-aquatic red lechwe and sitatunga antelope can be seen wading the shallows. Buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal can all be spotted on the floodplains and among the Moremi’s drier areas. A birdwatcher’s paradise, the rich and diverse habitat of the reserve is home to a surprising diversity of birds, with almost 500 species, from water birds to forest dwellers. The area is also well known for regular sightings of the endangered African wild dog.

Spend two nights in Moremi Game Reserve, choosing between value, luxury or deluxe accommodation options. Please refer to the terms and conditions to determine what is included in each option.

Day 4

Explore the golden grasslands in search of wildlife, keeping an eye out for a pride of lion picking their way through a shallow water crossing or a graceful leopard lounging in the boughs of a riverside tree. Follow a pack of endangered African wild dog on the hunt. Set out on foot to discover the minute wonders of the African bush, stopping to examine buffalo tracks and learning the traditional uses of the Okavango’s many bushes, trees and grasses. Meander through the clear lagoons and channels in a motorboat, watching wildlife from a different perspective and admiring a multitude of colourful bird species. Visit a local village and experience a traditional way of life that is in tune with this magical environment.

Day 5

After breakfast, yet another short flight will take you to the camp or lodge of your choice in the Selinda Reserve.

The Selinda Reserve is a 320 000 acre (129 500 hectare) private wildlife sanctuary in northern Botswana. The famous Selinda Spillway, which links the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti and Kwando wetlands and rivers, meanders through the area. Abundant wildlife is attracted to the vast floodplains and grasslands along the river, with large numbers of elephant and vast herds of buffalo congregating around the Zibadianja Lagoon in the dry winters. Predator viewing is exceptional, including lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah.

Due to its remoteness, the Linyanti is a gorgeous, unspoiled region of waterways and lagoons, riverine forests, huge trees and palm tree islands. Game viewing is superlative in both the wet and dry season and the birding is exceptional.

Spend two nights in the Selinda Reserve, choosing from value, luxury or deluxe accommodation. Please refer to the terms and conditions to determine what is included in each option.

Day 6

Stretch, yawn and listen to the morning chorus of birdcalls before easing into a new day. Hop into the vehicle like a seasoned safari veteran and set out in search of the perfect sighting. Hear nothing but the grass swish-swishing against your trouser leg as you walk through the tranquil bush. Crouch down around a fresh animal track as your guide deciphers the clues it has to offer. If the water levels allow, glide along the river on a tranquil canoe safari. Back at camp, let the aches and pains of the day melt away under the expert care of the camp masseuse. In the evening, warm your toes around a blazing campfire and join in stories of the day’s adventures.

Day 7

Enjoy your last game drive, bush walk or canoe trip before returning to the airstrip, where you will hop abroad a light aircraft for a flight to Kasane Airport. A vehicle will be waiting to take you to the camp or lodge of your choice in Chobe National Park.

Located in the north of Botswana, with the Chobe River forming the country’s northern border, Chobe National Park is flanked in the south west by the Okavango Delta and the Moremi Game Reserve. Towards the south of the Chobe River lie flat floodplains that form a broad sweep of open grassland and woodland. A myriad pans and waterholes dot the plains.

The Chobe River and its floodplains provide an irresistible attraction for wildlife, which congregates there during the dry season. Vast herds of elephant abound, with between 500 and 5 000 elephant frequently seen on the floodplains. Watching the elephant families drink and bathe in the river is an unforgettable sight, all the more impressive when herds of buffalo, rafts of hippo and gigantic Nile crocodile are part of the scene. Lion and spotted hyena are frequently seen on the floodplains, where red lechwe, puku, zebra, sable and roan come out to graze.

Spend two nights on the Chobe National Park outskirts, choosing from value, luxury or deluxe accommodation options. Please refer to the terms and conditions to determine what is included in each option.

Day 8

Awaken to a chorus of birdlife welcoming the dawn and warm up with a steaming cup of coffee. As the day heats up, sway with the motion of your 4×4 vehicle, keeping an eager eye out for what the next bend in the road may reveal. Follow the flashes of colour as birds flit between the trees along the river. Listen enthralled to the rumbling, trumpeting, rustling symphony of some of the world’s largest elephant herds. Step onto the low deck of a river boat and feel the current tug you onward. Pause in reverent stillness as the riverbank slowly fills up with elephant and then share their delight as the whole herd piles in for a swim.

Day 9

Indulge in an early morning game drive and breakfast before being driven to Victoria Falls in neighbouring Zimbabwe, clearing customs and immigration en route.

One of the world’s greatest natural spectacles, Victoria Falls is a massive curtain of water that tumbles over steep cliffs into the sheer drop of Batoka Falls. Shrouded in legend, romance and myth, long before the Scottish missionary and explorer, Dr David Livingstone ‘discovered’ the Falls in 1855, the local Batonga people had named them Mosi-oa-Tunya, ‘the smoke that thunders’. Apart from its exceptional scenery, Victoria Falls boast a rich historical heritage that includes the landmark Victoria Falls Bridge, commission by Cecil John Rhodes as part of his dream of building a railway across Africa from Cape Town to Cairo. Today, the little town of Victoria Falls claims the title of Adrenaline Capital of Africa, combining its spectacular scenery with a seemingly endless variety of adventure sports from bungee jumping to canoeing and white water rafting.

Spend two nights at &Beyond Matetsi River Lodge, a spectacular safari lodge situated within Matetsi Private Game Reserve, just 40 kilometres (24 miles) above the Victoria Falls. Adventures at the lodge include twice-daily game drives, sunrise or sunset boat cruises, WILDChild activities, walking safaris, canoeing, birdwatching and fishing.

Day 10

Choose from a multitude of activities to add on to your stay. Daredevils will not lack for options, with white water rafting, bungee jumping, river boarding, jet boating, abseiling and a host of other activities available in the gorges below Victoria Falls. If you are in search of some gentler adventure, you can try canoeing the calmer waters above the Falls or take to the skies for a spectacular micro light or helicopter flight above the chasm. Indulge in a close encounter with nature with a one-on-one elephant interaction or choose to immerse yourself in history on a classical steam train or in a traditional local village.

Day 11

Today you will be driven to Victoria Falls International Airport, where your adventure with us will end.

&Beyond Xudum Okavango Safari Lodge

The lodge

An intimate refuge, &Beyond Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge is designed with privacy in mind. Sprawled along the banks of a cyclical lagoon and guarded by a resident family of hippo after the rainy season, the lodge flawlessly combines the best of this unique Botswana safari destination.

Innovative design details featuring the artful recycling of everyday objects have been used throughout and all timber work is rough-hewn and chunky. The overall atmosphere is one of earthy glamour. Botswana basketware appears throughout the lodge and playful accents celebrate Delta icons.

The multi-layered guest areas boast dramatic decks with panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness, yet remain discretely within the tree line. These spaces are designed to make the experience more intimate, with inviting plump sofas ideal for total relaxation. Indulge in a playful moment or two on a big tractor tyre swing in the shade of the trees or gaze out over the lagoon from the quiet comfort of the massive couches in the inviting sitting area.

An interactive kitchen completes the whole experience, while a well-stocked Safari Shop showcases chic outdoor gear, African art and jewellery.

&Beyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge

The lodge

Inspired by one of the Okavango Delta’s most secretive inhabitants, the guest areas of &Beyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge rise out of the trees clad in a wooden skin of shingles and timber that mirrors the pangolin’s body armour of overlapping scales. Organic and handmade, the lodge blends perfectly with its surroundings, becoming one with the Delta itself.

Stairs rising out of bower of trees lead into cool and spacious interior, ending on a terrace set just above ground level. A curved wooden roof soars high overhead, creating a grand and immense sense of scale. High interiors let in the clear African light and the endless Delta horizons, while an interactive kitchen tantalises guests with the fragrant aroma of spices at each mealtime. Warm and inviting, the vast expanse of the bar invites guests to linger over a sundowner drink or a morning cappuccino, enjoying spectacular views over a sea of papyrus from the elevated viewing deck. Descending to the shaded forest floor, a series of decks open out onto a lantern-lit boma formed from huge logs of descending size that mimic the tail bones of the pangolin.

Decorated in shades of copper and wood, intricately woven baskets abound throughout the guest areas, celebrating the arts and crafts of the Delta. The vast dining room is dominated by an immense table roughly carved from the root of an ironwood tree. Two large woven carpets duplicate the intricate patterns on the underneath of the area’s beautiful water lilies.

Grand interiors open out onto even grander vistas and every nook and cranny opens out onto unparalleled Delta views, even the cosy and intimate massage sala.

While the main guest areas embrace the shelter of the Delta forest, the twelve elegant guest suites peep out from beneath its canopy, raised above the fringes of papyrus that line the Delta channels.

ZAFARA CAMP

The intimate Zarafa Camp is situated along the banks of the pristine Zibadianja Lagoon. Here, guests can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a luxurious bygone era, while experiencing exhilarating landscapes ripe with wildlife encounters. Sumptuous tents offer exceptional views of the lagoon, each with an ensuite bathroom that boasts an al fresco shower and clawfoot copper tub.

The Lodge’s restaurant serves delectable gourmet meals that skilfully blend Western and African ingredients — dishes are accompanied by a vintage wine from the well stocked cellar. Guests can also relax in the cosy sitting room or grab a book in the library. A swimming pool, boutique store and communications centre add to guest delight. Adventures include game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles, safari and sundowner cruises on the river and day trips to Victoria Falls.

&Beyond Matetsi River Lodge

The lodge

At &Beyond Matetsi River Lodge life slows down to the majestic pace of the broad Zambezi River, whose waters run deep alongside two intimate camps, each with just nine river-facing suites and a family suite. Clad in an intricate woven pattern that calls to mind the country’s rich heritage, the cool and spacious suites boast contemporary interiors embellished with natural finishes, and decorated with abstract pieces of art created by a renowned local artist. Set in the deep shade of riverside trees, each camp has a dedicated guest area with sweeping views of the Zambezi.

Mouth-watering flavours are created in an interactive kitchen and served indoors or beneath a canopy of mangosteen and waterberry trees. Al fresco dining takes place next to the quiet murmur of the running waters, punctuated by a choir of frogs and the throaty chuckling of hippos, while fresh, African mornings are accented by the stirring cry of fish eagles. As the sun slips beneath the water, guests gather in the cosy bar area to swap stories of the day’s adventures.

Cool and tranquil, leisure hours are spent in the shared guest area, indulging in a soothing treatment in the massage sala or tasting the wide selection of wines in the extensive wine cellar. The more actively inclined can make their way to a well-equipped fitness centre or enjoy a lap in the 23 metre (76 foot) pool.
