Gokyo Lake trek is one of the two popular routes in Everest region. The objective of the Gokyo Lakes trek is to reach Gokyo Lakes, one of the highest freshwater lake systems in the world as well as enjoy 360 degree panorama of world’s tallest peaks including Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Lhotse.

The journey starts with a scenic Himalayan flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The trek from Lukla to Namche follows the Dudhkosi River passing through rhododendron and pine forests. The following day you will visit Thyangboche Monastery and enjoy the majestic view of Ama Dablam. The route ahead rapidly gains altitude as you pass through villages of Dole (4110m) and Macchermo (4470m).

You will be able to visit a few of the Gokyo Lakes such as Gokyo Cho, Thonak Cho, Gyazumpa Cho, Tanjung Cho all lying between the altitudes of 4700 to 5000m. At 4750m, Gokyo Village is regarded as one of the highest Himalayan settlements. Climb the rocky Gokyo Ri (5357m) and you will be rewarded with breathtaking, 360 degree panorama of the four 8000m peaks, namely Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu along with other peaks. Just east of the Gokyo Lake is Ngozumpa Glacier, claimed as the world’s largest glacier, which remains the source of Gokyo Lakes.

After reaching Gokyo Lake Trek, you will retrace the steps back to Namche and then to Lukla. Gokyo Lake Trek offers you the opportunity to walk through Sagarmath National Park, a world heritage site, and enjoy unique culture and hospitality of Sherpa people. The best seasons for Gokyo Lakes trek is either during Spring or Autumn.

Day 1

Arrival Kathmandu

Upon your arrival time, a representative from Nepal Trekking Routes will reach Kathmandu International Airport [TIA] to welcome and receive you. You will then be escorted to your hotel where you can refresh and relax and in the evening a welcome dinner program will be organized at a Nepali restaurant. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2

Sightseeing of Kathmandu

After enjoying morning breakfast, you will be picked by your guide from the hotel and take around Kathmandu for sightseeing. You will visit world heritage monuments such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swoyambunat and Bouddhanath. In the evening, our trekking guide will conduct a briefing about the trekking program before dinner. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day 3

Kathmandu to Phakding via Lukla flight (2,652m) 3 hrs

Wake up early today to catch a mountain flight to Lukla, the gateway to Mt. Everest. Unload your rucksacks and star trekking towards Phakding. Enroute you will pass through pine and oak forests with occasional chirping sound of birds. Overnight in Phakding.

Day 4

Phakding to Namche

Have a warm breakfast and take in the crispy air. The trail leaving Phakding parallels the Dudkhosi River alongside the forested hills. Crossing of the suspension bridge over the confluence of Bhotekoshi and Dudhkoshi allows for a first glimpse of Everest and other peaks. The last segment is fairly uphill trek till you reach Namche Bazar.  Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 5

Namche Rest

Today is an acclimatization day. You will spend exploring and learning about the sights and sounds of Namche Bazaar. Or alternatively you can hike up to Everest View Hotel, one of world’s highest hotels to capture an amazing panorama of Mahalangur Himalayan ranges including Everest, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Choaltse and so forth. Afterwards return to Namche and spend evening in cozy Namche cafes or pubs. Overnight in Namche.

Day 6

Namche bazaar to Phortse Thanga

The walk from Namche Bazaar to Phortse is a short one. You will pass through boulders carrying Buddhist mantra on your way to the village of Khumjung. The trail slightly goes downhill up to Dudhkosi valley beyond which is Phortse. Phortse offers beautiful views of Kangtewa and Thamserku. Overnight in Phortse Thanga.

Day 7

Phortse Thanga to Machermo

Memorable as it is, Phortse to Machermo offers you the first glimpses of Mt. Cho Oyu (8153m). The trail is naturally blessed  with rhododendron and juniper forests and high pastures. You will come across the small village of Dole before making it to Machermo. Overnight in MAchermo.

Day 8

Machermo to Gokyo Lakes

All those trekking before builds up for today. You will follow the trail of moraines that trails down Ngozumpa Glacier with sightings of small lakes here and there. Gokyo  4,750m) with its Gokyo Lake holds any visitor in awe and inspiration. Overnight in Gokyo.

Day 9

Gokyo Lake explore around

Today is a go-easy day as you will spend time exploring the Gokyo lakes around If you are willing, you can make a quick climbing of Gokyo Ri (5350m), which offers beautiful views of Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Lhotse, Makalu, cholatse and Tawache peaks. Overnight in Gokyo.

Day 10

Gokyo lake to Dole

Today you will start your return journey by returning to Dole. Overnight in Dole.

Day 11

Dole to Khumjung

After morning breakfast, you will take a leisurely trek to the village of Khumjung which is famous for Khumjung school, which is part of the humanitarian projects carried out by Sir Edmund Hillary. The visit to Khumjung Monastery is also important where you can see the skull of Yeti on display.

Day 12

Khumjung to Lukla

Retrace your steps back to Lukla via Namche. Overnight in Lukla.

Day 13

Flight from Lukla – KTM

Catch an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. Once in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 14

Final Departure

Depending on the time of your departure, our representative will accompany you to Tribhuvan International Airport.
